Pool Fencing Regulations

Before you plan your new pool or associated fencing, you’ll need to be familiar with the safety requirements relevant to your state! Where you live, the age of your pool and type will all determine what these are. For instance, in New South Wales, there are more relaxed regulations for pools installed before 2010, but for those built since—including new installations—stricter regulations apply. They must be surrounded by a barrier that separates the pool from the house, which:

  • Is at least 1.2m high
  • Is 1.8m high, where boundary fences form part of the barrier
  • Has a self-latching gate
  • Has been maintained and remains in good working order
  • If a window forms part of the barrier, includes a restrictive locking device or security screen
  • If a door forms part of the barrier, doesn’t open towards the pool
  • Has appropriate safety and CPR signage attached

All requirements are outlined in detail within the Building Code of Australia; for an easy-to-understand summary, visit Fair Trading Australia. Alternatively, speak to our team! After all, we’ve been installing pool fencing for over 15 years.
